Intensive outpatient treatment, or "IOP", is a method of rehabilitation for a substance abuse problem that is significantly more comprehensive and involved than a conventional outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is an essential activity for clients in Baltic who have recently completed inpatient or residential treatment, and still need moderate support and intervention while they transition to a clean and sober and ethical way of living. IOP's consist of treatment which occurs more frequently than normal outpatient, where clients will take part in the treatment on a part time basis unless otherwise adjudicated.
Intensive outpatient treatment usually involves individual and group counseling meetings to continue to treat the individual's addiction. Individual sessions will take place at least once a week, and group sessions will add the peer support that is often crucial for long term sobriety. While in intensive outpatient treatment, clients work on refining relapse prevention skills, the management of every day stresses and vulnerabilities, and how to manage any lingering withdrawal symptoms and drug cravings. Some intensive outpatient treatment programs include family and couples/marriage counseling into the recovery process, which can be essential for individuals who must rebuild their relationships with their loved ones and family members.
