Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - St. Francis, SD.

One of the outpatient rehab alternatives for clients in St. Francis who are struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed clinics and doctors are certified to give specific meds to opioid addicted clients, many of which are opioids also and are addictive. With low doses however, the user does not experience high feelings and also does not experience acute cravings and is not in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication administered for this reason, but there are alternative choices to pick from.

Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an outpatient clinic licensed to dispense the med, which is taken daily in liquid or pill form. The price of the med is about $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based med, and is in pill form often taken one day on, one day off. But different from Methadone which can only be given in well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is about three hundred dollars /month for the generic version of the med. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, that is a med that blocks the effects of opioids. A person taking this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken daily, and costs about $450 /month. Naltrexone is an additional med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it is an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents an individual from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
