The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can pick a primary care physician and obtain referrals to organizations that offer specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, military members can receive substance abuse rehabilitation services in Paris. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other treatment services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detox are restricted to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers are allowed to stay in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually accepted. Additionally, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which occur on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other primary treatment services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
