The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and obtain referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, military members can receive substance abuse treatment services in Dilley. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are limited to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members will be allowed to stay in rehab.
