There is inpatient and outpatient drug rehab, but there are some sub-categories of outpatient drug and alcohol rehab in Guy from which to choose. Typical outpatient rehab is minimally invasive and individuals can usually attend counseling and therapy a few times per week. Intensive outpatient programs provide therapy and counseling much like regular outpatient, but on a more intensive schedule which also allows time for family and work life.
An outpatient drug rehab type called Day Treatment or Partial Hospitalization is the most comprehensive type of outpatient treatment available. Clients can return home or to a halfway house at the end of each day, but will spend most of the day participating in outpatient rehab activities. Day treatment and partial hospitalization outpatient drug treatment is ideal for people who have newly finished an inpatient rehab, but still need to keep a strong system of support while becoming more comfortable with sober living. These programs also tend to offer a wider spectrum of services that regular outpatient may not provide, including medication management, dual diagnosis treatment, and alternative therapies.
It is common for clients in outpatient drug or alcohol treatment or following treatment in outpatient drug rehab to relapse. In these cases inpatient rehab would correctly be the next logical step.
