There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, that is a drug which blocks the effects of opioids. A person taking this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken every day, and costs about $450 per month. Naltrexone is an additional med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents an individual from getting high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
