The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary care physician and get referrals to health care services that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can obtain drug and alcohol treatment services in Blanding. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other substance abuse recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detox are restricted to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers are allowed to stay in rehab.
