The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and get referrals to health care services that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can obtain substance abuse treatment services in Bountiful. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other rehabilitation services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detox are restricted to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members are allowed to remain in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is typically accepted. Additionally, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which take place on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished prior rehabilitation services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
