Intensive outpatient treatment, also known as "IOP", is a type of recovery from a substance abuse problem that is considerably more comprehensive and involved than a standard outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is fundamental aspect of recovery for people in Brian Head who have recently completed inpatient or residential rehabilitation, and still require adequate support and encouragement while they progress to a clean and sober and ethical lifestyle. IOP's consist of therapy which takes place much more often than normal outpatient, where clients will participate in treatment services and activities usually once or twice a week unless otherwise adjudicated.
Intensive outpatient treatment usually consists of group and sometimes individualized counseling and therapy meetings to continue to help address the person's addiction. Individual sessions may occur at least once a week, and group sessions can add the peer support that is often crucial for long term recovery. In intensive outpatient treatment, clients work on improving relapse prevention skills, managing every day challenges and vulnerabilities, and how to manage any lingering withdrawal symptoms and drug cravings. Some intensive outpatient rehab programs incorporate family and couples/marriage counseling into the treatment process, which can be beneficial for people who must rebuild their lives with their families and loved ones.
