American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to be in need to rehabilitation for substance abuse and addiction. So as one can see, there is an absolute need for different types of treatment programs to provide services for all of the very unique requirements of this client demographic, including addiction treatment programs in native languages.
One of the barriers that American Indian and Alaska Natives in Thompson face is access to comprehensive services, especially those who live in secluded regions.
