With so many various rehab alternatives in DHS to decide on it can be confusing which one would be best for yourself or a loved one. If you cannot commit to or afford residential or inpatient rehab there are outpatient alternatives that are more intensive than regular outpatient care, such as outpatient day treatment which is also sometimes referred to as partial hospitalization. The most obvious difference is that individuals do not remain at the facility like in inpatient, and go home after rehab each day. Outpatient day treatment or partial hospitalization generally consists of treatment services being offered at least 5 days a week, for up to 8 hrs per day. Aside from this option being used as a main treatment option, outpatient day treatment or partial hospitalization can also be of help to individuals who have finished inpatient treatment transition back into a sober lifestyle.
Rehabilitation services include traditional rehab services such as group therapy and individual counseling, but there are also relapse prevention elements in place such as psychotherapies that are known to help prevent destructive behaviors and motivate individuals to remain sober and get treatment. For individuals struggling with a co-occurring mental health disorder, many outpatient day treatment or partial hospitalization programs also offer care for dual diagnosis.
