Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Hustle, VA.

Vivitrol is a drug mainly administered to help prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is administered expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended-release version of the medication Naltrexone, which is available via injection once a month. It isn't addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone is adminstered Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when someone takes a drink of alcohol or takes opioids they basically cannot get high or drunk.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, someone who with the intent to begin Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for at least 7-10 days. This is including individuals who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking medications such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin addict or a person who has been on Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly can be brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of a week in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a treatment program in Hustle which also offers individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Speak to your therapist or Dr. about how pharmacological aids can help you maintain the drug-free life you want.
