The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary doctor and obtain referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, members of the military can acquire drug and alcohol treatment services in Bothell. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various substance abuse recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detoxification are restricted to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military members will be permitted to remain in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly allowed.
