One of the out-patient rehab options for individuals in Toledo battling with opioid dependence and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are authorized to give certain meds to opioid dependent individuals, many that are opioids themselves and are addictive. Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an out-patient clinic certified to administer the med, that is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is approximately $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based med, and is a pill often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone which can only be given in well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is about $300 per month for the generic version of the med. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a drug that blocks the effects of opiates. An individual consuming this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken on a daily basis, and costs around $450 per month. Naltrexone is an additional med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it is an opioid blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from experience high feelings from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
