Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Mercer, WI.

One of the outpatient treatment options for individuals in Mercer battling with opioid dependence and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are certified to dispense certain meds to opioid dependent clients, many of which are opioid-based themselves and are addiction. With low doses however, the client does not feel high but also does not have acute cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication administered for this sole purpose, but there are a few more options to select from.

Methadone is an opioid and can be taken at an outpatient medical center licensed to dispense the drug, which is taken daily in liquid or pill form. The cost of the drug is around $150 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based drug, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone that can only be dispensed in structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is about three hundred dollars a month for the generic version of the med. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a drug which blocks the effects of opiates. Someone consuming this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken on a daily basis, and costs approximately $450 per month. Naltrexone is another med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it is an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents an individual from getting high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 per month.
