Clients referred from the court for drug rehabilitation are usually referred because they are being given a chance to receive treatment rather than face jail time, other charges, fines, etc. While this is most common with first time offenders, it can be offered at any time including while someone is being held in jail. There are various types of rehab programs that criminal justice clients may be referred to, and this all depends on which programs are local to New Glarus and the type of issues they'll need treatment for.
There are programs that work directly with the courts to administer to this explicit type of clientele, and are usually state or federally funded or are available at no cost or very little cost to the client. There are also private addiction recovery programs that may be authorized by the court if there is a specific type of rehabilitation that the client needs or wants that a state-funded program can't provide. The client's legal representation can propose such alternatives to the judge for approval. There are even addiction rehabilitation programs that provide services from the jails and prisons themselves, whereas clients are sometimes in a better position for reduced sentences or other leniencies when enrolling in drug and alcohol rehabilitation services while serving their sentence for a drug offense or a DUI/DWI.
