One of the out-patient treatment alternatives for individuals in Wales who are struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Naltrexone is another drug taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it is an opiate blocker and is not an opiate. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents a person from experience high feelings from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 monthly.
