Intensive outpatient treatment, also known as "IOP", is a type of recovery from a substance abuse problem that is significantly more comprehensive and involved than a regular outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is fundamental activity for clients in Bramwell who have recently finished inpatient or residential treatment, and still require moderate assistance and encouragement while they progress to a sober and ethical lifestyle. IOP's consist of therapy which occurs much more often than standard outpatient, where clients will take part in the treatment on a part time basis unless otherwise adjudicated.
Intensive outpatient treatment normally involves individual and group counseling and therapy sessions to continue to help address the person's addiction. Individual sessions will take place at least once a week, and group sessions will add the peer support that is often crucial for long term sobriety. While in intensive outpatient treatment, clients work on building relapse prevention skills, the management of every day challenges and triggers, and how to manage any lingering withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Some intensive outpatient rehab programs offer family and couples/marriage counseling into the recovery process, which may be beneficial for clients who need to rebuild their lives with their families and loved ones.
