The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and get referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can acquire substance abuse rehabilitation services in Dunbar. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detox are limited to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers will be permitted to remain in treatment.
