Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Mammoth, WV.

Vivitrol is a med used to help prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is administered specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended-release version of the med Naltrexone, that one can get through injection once a month. It is not habit forming, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone injects Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would usually be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when someone drinks alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they essentially can't get drunk or high.

There are particular safety measures that should be be taken before someone is administered Vivitrol. Firstly, a person who intends to start Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for at least seven to ten days. This is including clients who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking meds like Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin addict or a person who has been taking Methadone for several years, abrupt cessation is brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of 7 days if they want to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a rehab program in Mammoth that also includes medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk to your therapist or doctor in regards to how pharmacological tools can help you build and maintain the sober life you want.
