Intensive outpatient treatment, also known as "IOP", is a form of recovery from an addiction problem that is considerably more comprehensive and involved than a standard outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is fundamental aspect of recovery for people in Pool who have just finished residential or inpatient rehabilitation, and still require moderate support and encouragement while they transition to a clean and sober and ethical lifestyle. IOP's involve therapy which occurs much more frequently than normal outpatient, where clients will take part in treatment services and activities usually once or twice a week unless otherwise determined.
Intensive outpatient treatment normally consists of group and sometimes individualized counseling meetings to continue to work on the individual's addiction. Individual sessions will take place at least once a week, and group sessions can provide the peer support that is essential for long term recovery. In intensive outpatient treatment, focus is placed on refining relapse prevention abilities, managing every day challenges and vulnerabilities, and how to manage any discomforts and cravings. Some intensive outpatient treatment centers offer family and couples/marriage counseling into the treatment process, which can be essential for clients who need to rebuild their relationships with their loved ones and family members.
