The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and obtain referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can acquire drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Williamson. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various substance abuse recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detox are restricted to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers are allowed to remain in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly allowed. In additional to this, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed other primary rehabilitation services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
