The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can select a primary care physician and get referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can receive drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Lewisville. This encompasses individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other substance abuse recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are restricted to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military members are permitted to stay in treatment.
