The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid treatment programs, which are programs that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent individuals.
