The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to promote the mental health of the nation. One of its obligations is the oversight of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are programs which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine prescribed are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Lake Montezuma are programs that are officially allowed to distribute the drugs used in MAT being they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get ancillary services aside from medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.
An opioid rehabilitation facility can get their initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment center is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every three years contingent upon the type of accreditation that was granted.
