The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and obtain referrals to health care services that provide specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, military members can acquire drug and alcohol treatment services in Auburn. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other treatment services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detox are limited to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers are permitted to remain in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly allowed. In additional to this, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis.
