American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to need recovery services for substance abuse and addiction. Reversely, American Indians and Alaska Natives are more likely to seek treatment on their own will more than other racial/ethnic groups. Nearly 50% of American Indian and Alaska Native substance abuse treatment admissions arrive to treatment as criminal justice clients, meaning they have most likely agreed to a court ordered diversion program to go to treatment in lieu of jail times for their charges. So therefore, there is definitely a need for a variety of service types to cover all of the various requirements of American Indian or Alaska Natives, including substance abuse treatment services in native languages.
One of the challenges that American Indian and Alaska Natives in Blue Lake face is access to comprehensive treatment facilities, especially those who reside in rural areas.
