Clients referred from the court for drug rehabilitation are most commonly referred because they are being granted a chance to receive rehab in lieu of jail time, other charges, fines, etc. While this is more prevalent with first time offenders, it can occur at any time such as while the defendant is being held in jail. There are different types of programs that criminal justice clients may be referred to, and it usually depends on what is local to Long Barn and the type of drug or alcohol they'll need treatment for.
There are rehab facilities that work primarily with the courts to treat this specific group of clientele, and are usually publicly-funded or are offered at little or no cost to the client. There are also private drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers that can be approved by the court if there is a specific type of rehabilitation that the person requires or prefers that a different facility can't fulfill. The client's legal representation can present such options to the judge for permission. There are even substance abuse treatment centers that operate out of the correctional institutions themselves, whereas clients are often in a better position for early release or other benefits when enrolling in drug rehabilitation services while serving their time for a drug offense or a DUI/DWI.
