One of the outpatient rehab options for clients in Mill Creek battling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed facilities and doctors are certified to give certain meds to opioid addicted clients, many that are opioid-based themselves and are habit forming. In low enough doses however, the individual does not experience being high and also doesn't experience severe cravings and is not experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug administered for this sole purpose, but there are other options currently to select from.
Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an out-patient medical center licensed to dispense the med, which is taken on a daily basis as a pill or liquid. The cost of the med is around $150 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based med, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But different from Methadone that can only be administered in structured medical centers, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is about $300.00 monthly for the generic version of the med. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, that is a med which reverses the effects of opiates. An individual consuming this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and costs approximately $450 /month. Naltrexone is another med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it is an opioid blocker and isn't an opiate. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 /month.
