The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and obtain referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can receive drug and alcohol treatment services in Santa Clarita. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other treatment services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some restrictions. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detox are limited to no more than 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers will be allowed to remain in treatment.
