The armed forces currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary care physician and obtain referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can receive substance abuse treatment services in Craig. This encompasses detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various substance abuse recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are limited to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military members will be permitted to stay in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually allowed. Additionally, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which take place on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed prior rehabilitation services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
