One of the out-patient rehabilitation options for clients in Snowmass struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based drug, and is a pill often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone which is only be dispensed in structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is around $300 per month for the generic of the drug. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, which is a med which blocks the effects of opioids. Someone consuming this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken on a daily basis, and costs around $450 a month. Naltrexone is an additional medication used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it's an opiate blocker and is not an opiate. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
