There is also a type of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, that is a med which reverses the effects of opioids. An individual consuming this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and costs around $450 a month. Naltrexone is an additional med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned it's an opioid blocker and is not an opioid. A person has the choice to take this drug as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from getting high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 monthly.
