Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centers - Marion, CT.

One of the outpatient rehabilitation options for clients in Marion who are battling with opioid dependence and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed centers and doctors are authorized to administer specific medications to opioid addicted people, many that are opioid-based also and are habit forming. With low enough doses however, the individual doesn't feel high but also doesn't experience intense cravings and isn't experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication administered for this sole purpose, but there are other options to choose from.

Methadone is an opioid and can be taken at an out-patient medical center certified to administer the med, which is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is about $150 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid-based med, and is a pill often taken one day on, one day off. But different from Methadone that can only be dispensed in structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is around three hundred dollars /month for the generic version of the med. There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a drug that reverses the effects of opiates. A person taking this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken daily, and is priced around $450 per month. Naltrexone is another med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it is an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. A person has the choice to take this medication as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents a person from experience high feelings from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 per month.
