Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Stamford, CT.

One of the outpatient treatment options for individuals in Stamford who are struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Some facilities and doctors are certified to dispense specific medications to opioid addicted clients, many that are opioids also and are habit forming. With low amounts however, the user does not experience high feelings and also doesn't have severe cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first med administered for this purpose, but there are other options to select from.

Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an outpatient medical center licensed to dispense the med, that is taken daily as a pill or liquid. The price of the drug is approximately $150 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based med, and is a pill often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone that can only be dispensed in well-regulated medical centers, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is about $300.00 a month for the generic of the med. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, which is a drug which blocks the effects of opioids. Someone taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and costs around $450 /month. Naltrexone is an additional medication taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications aforementioned it is an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from experience high feelings from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 per month.
