Clients referred from the court for drug rehabilitation are most commonly referred because they are being granted a chance to try their hand at rehab in lieu of jail time, other charges, fines, etc. While this is most common with first time offenders, it can happen at any time including while the person is being held in jail. There are different types of facilities that offenders can be referred to, and this all depends on what is attainable in Washington and the type of issues the person requires treatment for.

There are programs that work primarily with the courts to treat this specific group of clientele, and are usually state or federally funded or are available at no cost or very little cost to the client.
