The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to advance the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals.
