Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Auburndale, FL.

Vivitrol is a medication used to prevent drug dependency and relapse, and is administered expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended-release version of the drug Naltrexone, which one can get through injection once a month. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual injects Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would usually be activated by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual takes a drink of alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they essentially can't get high or drunk.

There are particular safety measures that should be be taken before someone is administered Vivitrol. Firstly, a client who with the intent to begin Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for at least seven to ten days. This is including people who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given medications such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or someone who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of seven days in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of an addiction treatment program in Auburndale which also offers individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Talk with your therapist or doctor about how pharmacological aids can help you build and maintain the sober life you want.
