Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - Bagdad, FL.

Vivitrol is a med mainly administered to help prevent drug or alcohol dependency and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended-release type of the drug Naltrexone, that is available through a monthly injection. It isn't addictive, and is what is called an antagonist. When someone injects Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when someone drinks alcohol or takes opioids they essentially can't get high or drunk.

There are certain safety measures that should be be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, a person who with the intent to begin Vivitrol needs to have abstained from opioids for at least 7-10 days. This is including people who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given medications like Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin addict or someone who has been taking Methadone for several years, abrupt cessation is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for a minimum of seven days in order to start Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a rehab program in Bagdad which also includes individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Talk with your doctor or therapist about how pharmacological tools can help you live the sober life you want.
