Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Cape Canaveral, FL.

Vivitrol is a drug used to help prevent drug dependency and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the drug Naltrexone, that is available via a monthly injection. It isn't habit forming, and is what is called an antagonist. When an individual injects Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would normally be triggered by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual drinks alcohol or takes opioids they essentially cannot get high or drunk.

There are particular precautions that should be be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, a person who intends to begin Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for a minimum of seven to ten days. This includes individuals who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given medications such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or someone who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly is brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least a week in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a rehab program in Cape Canaveral which also includes individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Speak with your therapist or doctor about how pharmacological aids can help you build and maintain the drug-free life you want.
