Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - Inglis, FL.

Vivitrol is a medication used to help prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is administered expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the drug Naltrexone, that is available through a monthly injection. It is not addictive, and is what is called an antagonist. When someone takes Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual drinks alcohol or takes opioids they essentially can't get drunk or high.

There are certain safety measures that need to be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, a person who plans to start Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for a minimum of 7-10 days. This includes clients who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given meds such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin addict or a person who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of 7 days if they want to start Vivitrol.

These medications must be used in conjunction with an addiction treatment program in Inglis which also offers individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Talk to your doctor or therapist in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you build the drug-free life you want.
