Medicaid is an insurance program for low-income households that due to the Affordable Care Act they are required to cover basic substance abuse treatment. Medicaid is presently the single largest payer for mental health treatment services in the country, and is starting to play a significant role in the reimbursements of drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.
