Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers - Monticello, FL.

Vivitrol is a med used to help prevent drug use and relapse, and is administered specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended-release version of the drug Naltrexone, that one can get via a monthly injection. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual takes Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would normally be activated by alcohol or opioids, so when someone drinks alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they essentially can't get high or drunk.

There are particular precautions that should be be taken before an individual is administered Vivitrol. Firstly, a person who intends to start Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for at least seven to ten days. This is including people who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given drugs such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or someone who has been taking Methadone for several years, quitting quickly can be very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least a week in order to start Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Monticello which also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Speak to your therapist or doctor in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you maintain the sober life you want.
