The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to advance the mental health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the administering of opioid treatment programs, which are programs who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Drug administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients.
