Regular out-patient recovery is usually a less expensive alternative to more intensive outpatient options or inpatient treatment, and is the lowest intensity of formal substance abuse treatment around in Hawaii National Park. Some clients are in rehab for their first time and have chosen regular outpatient because that is all they can afford and commitment to time wise and scheduling because of school, work or other obligations. For some, regular outpatient is a step down from rehab in a more intensive outpatient facility like a partial hospitalization or inpatient center.
Regular outpatient treatment services involve some kind of individual and group counseling services occurring once or twice a week. Facilities which offer a more diverse spectrum of services may include counseling (behavioral therapy) to assist with relapse prevention and dual diagnosis services to help respond to co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders. The length of time someone remains involved in recovery can change from client to client, and a person's progress can be assessed from time to time and more rehab can be suggested contingent upon these conclusions.
In many cases, a regular outpatient treatment facility may be insufficient in intensity for someone who is attempting to address a bad drug and alcohol problem and has never experienced rehab before or has fallen off the wagon following prior outpatient treatment.
