Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Dedham, IA.

There are programs offered in or near Dedham which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will instead no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment objective is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary services, and it is encouraged.
