Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Mondamin, IA.

There are recovery programs available in or near Mondamin that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will ideally no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the main treatment objective is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do offer a small amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
