Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centers - Panama, IA.

Vivitrol is a med used to prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the drug Naltrexone, which one can get via a monthly injection. It is not habit forming, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone is adminstered Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would usually be triggered by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual drinks or tries to get high on opioids they basically can't get drunk or high.

There are certain safety measures that need to be taken before an individual is administered Vivitrol. Firstly, a client who with the intent to start Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for a minimum of seven to ten days. This is including individuals who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking meds such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin addict or a person who has been taking Methadone for several years, abrupt cessation can be brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for a minimum of seven days if they want to start Vivitrol.

These medications must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Panama which also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Speak with your therapist or doctor about how pharmacological aids can help you maintain the sober life you want.
