Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Roland, IA.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Roland which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so that an opioid dependent client will instead no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications consistently so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to handle the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
