Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Tipton, IA.

Vivitrol is a med used to prevent drug or alcohol dependency and relapse, and is used specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended-release version of the medication Naltrexone, that is available via a monthly injection. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone injects Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would normally be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual takes a drink of alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they basically cannot get high or drunk.

There are certain safety measures that should be be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, a client who plans to begin Vivitrol needs to have abstained from opioids for a minimum of 7-10 days. This includes clients who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking drugs such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly is brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least seven days in order to start Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a rehab program in Tipton which also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk with your therapist or Dr. about how pharmacological aids can help you build and maintain the sober life you want.
